State of the Union and the Energy Crisis
January 26, 2011
President Obama
A few scattered sentences in President Obama's speech covered most of his "energy policy". They assure our continued dependence on foreign oil and higher fuel prices.
President Obama wants to "eliminate the billions in taxpayer dollars we currently give to oil companies. I don't know if - I don't know if you've noticed, but they're doing just fine on their own." He fails to note that much of their income comes from overseas.
He has not been able to figure out how to nationalize domestic oil companies. -- They must be punished.
He wants to work on a new a energy policy without including oil: "Some folks want wind and solar. Others want nuclear, clean coal and natural gas."
One of his goals is "to give 80 percent of Americans access to high-speed rail." - Whether they want it or not.
Another is to "become the first country to have a million electric vehicles on the road by 2015." --Whether we can afford their high price and the high cost of electricity or not.
And: "I challenge you to join me in setting a new goal: By 2035, 80 percent of America's electricity will come from clean energy sources." Impossible, unless he starts a fast track program to build nuclear power plants.
It is very evident that he wants to tax fossil fuels and use the money for "clean energy"
(1). Raising the price of oil will raise all prices.
"changing the way we use energy, reducing our deficit - none of this will be easy"
"So tonight, I am proposing that starting this year, we freeze annual domestic spending for the next five years"
He wants to freeze spending after raising it to the highest level in history? Unbelievable! Freezing spending will never reduce our deficit. He fooled us once he fooled us twice - not again.
(NOTE: Get ready for high inflation. It has already started. Our government does NOT include food and fuel when calculating inflation. If you don't eat or drive you will be ok)
(If you have followed our web site, congratulations! Our companies have done very well today)
(1) The great solar power fiasco
After spending 500 million dolars on solar panel factories these are some of the resuls:

GE to Close U.S. Solar Panel Factory
General Electric plans to close its only U.S. solar panel factory because production costs have exceeded sale prices.
The Fairfield, Conn.-based company told the Dow Jones Clean Technology Insight that silicon panel manufacturing at its facility in Delaware, will stop in January.
GE will shutter the factory all together by June. The factory can produce 34 megawatts of solar panels per year and employs 82 people. GE plans to layoff the workers with severance packages.
The move reflects the tough times experienced by solar energy equipment makers worldwide as supply far exceeded demand over the past year. Recession and a big reduction in solar subsidies in Spain - once a booming market - are key contributors.

Solar-Panel Maker to Close a Factory and Delay Expansion
By TODD WOODY
SAN FRANCISCO - Solyndra, a Silicon Valley solar-panel maker that won half a billion dollars in federal aid to build a state-of-the-art robotic factory, plans to announce on Wednesday that it will shut down an older plant and lay off workers.
The cost-cutting move, which will reduce the company's previously announced production capacity, is a sign of the notable shift in the prospects for cutting-edge American solar companies, which now face intense price competition from Chinese manufacturers that use more established photovoltaic technologies.

Evergreen Solar shutters costly U.S. plant
by Martin LaMonica
Evergreen Solar will close its Massachusetts factory, saying that the U.S. is at a disadvantage in the face of low-cost Chinese solar suppliers.
The company yesterday said that its Devens, Mass., plant, a converted military facility, will be shut down by the end of the first quarter of this year. The move will result in 800 lost jobs, leaving about 100 in its Marlborough, Mass.-based headquarters.
Evergreen Solar said it needs to close the facility to preserve its cash and remain in line with global solar panel prices. It will continue to make silicon cells in Michigan and in China.
